1 Document Needed
Non-Chinese travelers have to possess two documents. One is the regular Chinese visa that travelers can obtain from their local Chinese consulate, while the other is a permission letter allowing entry to Tibet issued by the Tibet Tourist Administration for foreign nationals.
2 How to get the visa and agreement to go to Tibet
A traveler can apply for the visa at any Chinese consulate. With a copy of first page of the passport and a description of his or her occupation, the traveler can entrust the local representative office of the Tibet Tourism Administration or any of international travel agency with an office in Tibet to help obtain the permission document.
3 Which seasons are the best in Tibet?
Generally, the period from April to October is the best time to travel in Tibet. But, concrete routes require concrete analysis. In fact, travel in winter is also very comfortable, especially as the traveler can enjoy the scenery in relative quiet as there will be few other visitors then.
4 How to get to Tibet?
Flights from Chengdu in Sichuan Province to Tibet are scheduled everyday.
By land: a traveler can get to Tibet through roads from Qinghai, Sichuan, Yunnan provinces or Kathmandu, capital of Nepal. The roads from Qinghai, Yunnan and Kathmandu are more convenient compared to that from Sichuan.
5 Matters needing attention when communicating with Tibetans
Tibetans are very hospitable. A traveler can talk to them with ease. However, travelers should also pay attention to some taboos.
1. No pictures should be taken without the subject's permission.
2. A traveler should not eat dog, monkey, or horse meat.
6 what medicines should a traveler take to cure altitude sickness?
A traveler should take some medicines like Bufferin, Rhodiola EP, Aminophylline, and Aspirin to cure altitude sickness.
7 What should a traveler prepare for traveling in Tibet?
The solar radiation in Tibet is very strong due to its high altitude. So, a traveler had better to take sunglasses and a sun helmet and use a sun cream with a high protection-factor to protect the eyes and skin.
